Itineraries are the stuff of birders dreams, they conjure up visions of wonderful birding adventures to new corners of the planet! An itinerary is a programme of birding and our itineraries are based on years of experience in all the areas we guide in.

Our Itineraries
Shorter Johannesburg-Pretoria Itineraries
Eastern Endemics Circuit 3-7 daysThis itinerary includes the pristine Steenkampsberg Highlands, Afro-temperate forests on the Mpumalanga escarpment and Arid woodlands north of Pretoria. It provides a wonderfully diverse sample of South African birds, including many endemics and spectacular species such as cranes, bustards and bush-shrikes. For full itinerary click here
Johannesburg region3-6 daysJohannesburg and it's neighboring city, Pretoria lie close to the transition between highveld grassland, and warmer woodlands. With a variety of wetlands and diverse geology, this area offers 430 species within an hour of the cities, including some 70 regional endemics. Tours are offered from 2 - 6 days. Expectations for a 4 day tour are 190 - 290 species in summer (50-60 Southern African endemics)

Because there are many specials in this area, which are not easily found on typical South African itineraries, this tour is recommended as a supplementary tour to a longer trip to Eastern or Western South Africa.

Eastern South Africa Itineraries
Eastern South Africa14 daysEastern South Africa offers a great diversity of habitats, all of which can be accessed at very "birder-friendly" destinations. 400 species are achievable in two weeks, which will include over 70 regional endemics (species only occurring in Southern Africa) Our standard 2-week tour of Southern Africa, takes in the sub-tropical Zululand coastal plain, the high Drakensburg Mountains, pristine highland grassland, a sample of arid northwestern woodlands and afro-temperate forests. We will also visit mammal-rich savannahs.

Eastern South Africa + Kruger18 daysThe 18 day includes itinerary the World-renowned Kruger National Park, the most popular wilderness destination in Africa - for big mammals and more birds not found on the 14 day itinerary. Expectations are up to 440 species, including over 70 regional endemics.

The Classic Northern Circuit 14 daysThe northern part of Eastern South Africa. This area holds a staggering diversity of birds, mostly representative of African avifauna further north. The tour includes diversity-rich north-west woodlands, the superb Magoebaskloof Forests, the Soutpansberg mountains and the Pafuri region of the Kruger National Park. It ends in the endemic rich highlands around Dullstroom.

400 species can be expected, includng 60 species restricted to the Southern African region.

Kruger Park Itineraries
Kruger + endemics ex Johannesburg7-12 daysThis tour combines the world-renowned Kruger National Park, with the incredible diversity of the Mpumalanga escarpment, and Steenkampsberg highlands. In addition we also spend a day each in a pristine and endemic-rich highveld wilderness, and one of the most diverse birding biomes anywhere: the north-west arid woodlands, with it's glut of regional specialties.

Expectations for the week-long trip are 320 species with 50 regional endemics.

Kruger National Park4-7 daysFor birders with a keen interest in all wildlife, this is a wonderful african experience. Shorter tours concentrate on the parks Southern Region, which has lots of birds and big game. The longer versions visit the central region - best for big cats, and providing additional opportunities to see some of the more spectacular large birds of the park, such as Southern Ground Hornbil, Kori Bustard and Secretarybird. Tours are offered ex-Johannesburg, and may be combined with the Eastern Endemics Ciricut for greater diversity.

Comprehensive South Africa
South African fast-intro tour14 daysA short, but comprehensive itinerary which covers the main regions for endemic birds, as well as some of the best sites for overall diversity. Expectations for this trip are 400 species, and 100 endemics and near endemics.

Desert, Forests and Big Game19 daysThis 21 day trip combines Classic African savannahs, with big mammals and several endemic rich habitats, including the unique cape 'fynbos' vegetation and upland grasslands. This itinerary provides a comprehensive introduction to the regions birds.

Expectations for this trip are 500 species, and 120 endemics and near endemics.

South African Endemics Tour 20 daysThis tour itinerary is focussed on providing an opportunity to see all of South Africa's endemics and near endemic species. This itinerary is not for the faint-hearted and involves a lot of driving through beautiful but desolate regions. Expectations for this trip are 500 species, and 140 endemics and near endemics.
