15. BABANANGO VALLEY (17.5 kms from Babamango Stop Street)

From the stop street in Babanango, take the R68 towards Dundee and stop after one and a half kilometers. You will now be overlooking the dam in the valley. Look to the left of the road where you could see Crowned Crane and Orange-throated Longclaw. Proceed for a further four kilometers and turn right onto the D139 (Babanango Valley sign). Continue for one kilometer, take the left-hand fork to Babanango Valley Lodge (251 recorded species). Stop on the flat at the first cattle grid and look for Buff-streaked Chat, Ground Woodpecker, Malachite Sunbird and a variety of Widow birds. This venue boasts nesting raptors including Black, Tawny, Wahlberg's and African Hawk Eagles, Jackal Buzzard, Lanner Falcon and Rock Kestrel. Other species you could see include Half-collared Kingfisher, African Black Duck and Red-fronted Tinkerbird.
