MTUNZINI, with it's Raffia Palm groves, swamp and coastal dune forest, estuarine mud flats, mangroves and open grassland is home to South Africa's rarest breeding bird, the Palmnut Vulture, which can be viewed from the Boardwalk trail, the beach and mud flats.

17. MLALAZI NATURE RESERVE KwaZulu-Natal Nature Conservation Services. Permission is required.
This nature reserve stretches southwards from the Umlalazi estuary. African Finfoot and Spotted Ground Thrush are the `specials' to look for hut in winter also keep a watch out for Mangrove Kingfisher Other species that may be seen include Green Coucal, African Crested Flycatcher, Black throated Wattle-eye. White-eared Barbet, Lemon Dove,
Scaly-throated Honeyguide, Olive and Grey Sunbirds, Gorgeous Bush Shrike, Narina Trogon. Forest Weaver, Green Twinspot, Sooty Falcon (in January and February), Southern Banded Snake Eagle, Half-collared Kingfisher, Trumpeter Hornbill and Red-capped Robin-chat.
Enhancements: Boardwalk and walking trails.
