Since the inception of the PCC in 2002, we have succeeded in collecting a significant amount of data on the birds of our region. Initially records focussed on the "Pretoria Region" but now include data from the wider region, which includes the whole of Gauteng and adjacent provincial areas. Our focus has been that region which lies within 100km of Johannesburg or Pretoria.

Most importantly, this project has resulted in a far keener awareness of the birds in our region, and this extends to birds and bird clubs who are not necessarily participating in this project. At this stage, feedback to the wider birders has become important, and we are thus compiling an online resource on the birds of the region. This takes the form of "draft texts" on bird species which occur in the area. These texts are not merely based on the data collected, but aim to document the extensive experience (including anecdotal experience) of the regions birders.
