Costs and Information
The Weekend of Birding at Ezemvelo is an opportunity to learn more about some of our more fascinating and challenging birds.
The weekend is being run on a self-catering basis, but the cost includes early morning coffee/tea/biscuits and a braai on Saturday evening. On Friday evening we will provide a fire and charcoal for the Bring and Braai.
Accomodation must be booked through the organisers, and is available in chalets at the main camp or camping.
Provisional Programme and Cost
Friday 28 October
- Arrive at your leisure, Check into Accomodation.
Optional birding at Ezemvelo from 16h00 pm - 18h30
- Introductory Talk on the LBJ's (and other birds) of Ezemvelo by Etienne Marais. Distribution of notes and worksheets for participants and explanation of what we will be doing.
- Dinner (Bring and Braai)
Saturday 29 October
- 05:30 Meet for Coffee and Biscuits. Excursion within Ezemvelo NR:
Field Birding - Skills and Identification of difficult groups at Ezemvelo
This will a practical, hands-on programme of activities which will help you to master the difficult groups, including Larks, Cisticolas and Pipits, swallows, swifts and warblers. (Please bring breakfast along on this excursion)
We will meet for a picnic lunch at the main camp.
- Afternoon - excursion to the Wilge Valley - this offers wooded kloofs and some quite different birding from that experienced in the morning. Specials here include African Finfoot, Half-collared Kingfisher and Striped Pipit, as well as Lazy and Tinkling Cisticola.
Sunday 30 October
- 04:30 - 13:00 Morning Excursion (Self-drive) We will visit some excellent nearby localities, which may include Rhenosterkop, Crake Dam and the de Tweedespruit Conservancy. (Please bring a picnic breakfast along on this excursion)
PRICE
The price for the weekend is dependent on number of people sharing accommodation. Accomodation is in reserve self-catering chalets, which sleep four (two in the general living area). This limits participation to 16 persons. If you are a group larger than 2, and wish to utilise one of the other units in the reserve, please contact us for pricing.
- 1 Person staying alone in a chalet: R1200-00
- 2 People sharing a chalet R720-00 per person
- 3 People sharing a chalet R670 per person
- 4 People sharing a chalet R580 per person
- Camping R480-00 per person
Price includes a braai on the Saturday, entry fees into the reserve and specified accommodation on a self-catering basis. The price also includes a partipants booklet with notes and worksheet, and participation in all excursions and activities for the weekend.
