Male eating small bird. The presence of these birds in Wierda Park has had a profound influence on the bird populations in the area. Species which seem to have been heavily affected include Cape Sparrow, Grey-headed Sparrow, Masked Weaver - which have completely dissapeared from the area. Other species for which a decline has been noted since breeding by the Sparrowhawks was first observed include Southern Boubou, Sunbirds, Mousebirds, African Hoopoe, African Paradise Flycatchers, Cape Robin-chat, Streaky-headed Seed-eater and Lesser Honeyguide.
