Digiscoped Bird Images from Southern Africa - Ovambo Sparrowhawk Accipiter Ovampensis  (156)

A medium sized accipiter, which is somewhat uncommon over most of it's range. Around Pretoria and Johannesburg, this species is often associated with alien trees such as Eucalyptus, and is quite easily found in certain localities. This image was captured in the Waterberg area, and this bird was sitting only 100m from the nest of it's larger cousin, the Black Sparrowhawk. ©Etienne Marais 2004
