Digiscoped Bird Images from Southern Africa - Short-toed Rock-thrush Monticola brevipes  (583)

The Short-toed Rock-thrush occurs on rocky hillsides in areas with aloes or shrubs. It is common east of Pretoria, but secretive and unobstrusive in the summer months. This image is of the subspecies pretoriae which occurs in the Pretoria area, and often shows little of the characteristic whitish crown of the nominate race. ©Etienne Marais 2004
